Nancy Shastid attended public schools in three states. By starting school a year early and attending summer school and night school, she skipped a year of high school and started college at the age of 16. She graduated from the University of Houston—Clear Lake with a B.S. in American Jurisprudence and had a career as a litigation paralegal before becoming a homeschooling mom.
Nancy is one of the four co-authors of Turn on the Power: How School Is Limiting Your Child's Potential and What to Do about It with Myiesha Taylor, M.D., Haley Taylor Schlitz, and Noel Jett, Ph.D. She recognized and supported the social emotional and educational needs of her daughter, Noel, and planned accordingly. Nancy brings a perspective not only as a homeschooling mom of an accelerated student, but also as an early college entrant herself. Nancy continues to advocate for the gifted through her work with Texas Parents of the Profoundly Gifted.
